How to Prepare English for IBPS Clerk Exam 2023

IBPS is going to release Official notification for IBPS CLERK 2023 in the last week of June 2023. According to the latest exam updates by IBPS, the dates for the IBPS Clerk 2023 Prelims exams are notified in the month of August 2023. IBPS CLERK exam offers a prestigious career options for graduates and if one prepares effectively for all the sections of the exam then it will bear outstanding outcomes for them.

English section has given a nightmare in bank exams for the last few years as there was lot of changes in the exam pattern without any prior notice. Before planning a preparation strategy, it is important to examine and scrutinize syllabus and exam pattern of IBPS Clerk Prelims exams. We have divided the whole content of English Language of IBPS Clerk into four major sections and they are:-

1. Reading Comprehension
2. Verbal Ability
3. Grammar
4. Vocabulary

1. Reading Comprehension

It is important that you should develop the habit of reading regularly. The practice of reading will help you to read quickly and will give you understanding of the article. You should be daily reader of daily English Newspapers, novels, books etc. While solving reading comprehension, you have to go through all the passage to understand the theme of the article. You have to judge the subject, theme, crux and tone of the passage. The passage can be about social issue, political happening, and banking or financial issues etc. You should carefully read the entire passage and understand the idea of the passage with full understanding. Do not spend too much on any complicated questions as it can be too time-consuming affair for you. In multiple choice questions, you can choose elimination method to arrive at the correct answer.

2. Verbal Ability

The section of Verbal Ability is all based on Para Jumbles. Generally speaking, these Para Jumbles are either based passage or on predefined sentence. While arranging them properly, do try to look for the logical interpretation between them. There is high possibility that sentence that need to assemble is a supporting statement.

3. Grammar

The Grammar section tests the basic grammatical knowledge of the applicants. The Grammar section primarily comprises of Error Spotting, Fill in the blank (double) and phrase replacements.

a. Error Spotting should be solved by identifying the error which can be easily done if the basic grammar rules are clear. Learn the basic grammar rules well to solve it accurately.

b. Cloze Test is given where the students have to fill the appropriate words in the blanks to make the paragraph meaningful. The technique of elimination has worked very well in solving the questions.

c. Fill in the blank (Double) should attempt it by choosing the best combination to be filled in the blanks. The chosen answers should sound the most correct answers. It’s your reading and understanding abilities which can help you solve these questions easily.

4. Vocabulary

This section comprises of Para jumbles, antonyms and synonyms and paragraph based fill in the blanks. In the questions based on fill in the blanks, you have to choose the best word to fill in the blank from the given synonyms. Make a list of advanced vocabulary with subsequent antonyms and synonyms and revise them daily.
